Pressure transmitter is ?

Pressure transmitter is a device that measures pressure in a liquid, fluid, or gas.

Pressure transmitters are commonly used to measure pressure inside of industrial machinery in order to alert the user before a catastrophe occurs. They have many different uses, most of which are industrial or automotive in nature. A pressure transmitter is easily recognized as it is a round gauge with various colors that represent different pressure levels. While pressure transmitters are similar to other gauges, they are essential to many of the applications they are used for.

And pressure transmitters are used to measure the pressure or level of industrial liquids and gases. The output is transmitted to a control system. Accurate and stable process measurements ensure the safe, reliable, and profitable operation of your plant. These transmitters perform the important job of making sure machinery and equipment is working properly, as well as providing warning when pressures are building to unsafe levels.

Pressure Transmitter, a sub-group of pressure transducers, feature additional reset and calibration options. With some sensor types it is possible, for example, to re-set the measuring span over large ranges. This calibration option is usually referred to by such terms as “scale down”, “span reset” or “turn down”. For instance, a transmitter with a measuring range of 0 to 400 psi and a range reset 1/10 can be calibrate to a measuring range of 0 – 40 psi while still giving a full output signal (4 – 20 mA, for example).

It is also possible to shift the zero point over a wide range and to calibrate the damping of the output signal between 0 and 32 seconds. Smart transmitters such as Hart®, which also have logging capabilities, can be calibrated, tested and reset via the control desk or hand terminals. Transmitters are often used in process applications where they can be combined with various chemical seals.

Advantages

Pressure transmitters have several important advantages that other types of gauges do not. For example, pressure transmitters directly measure pressure levels as well as differences in pressure. Pressure transmitter can withstand virtually any environment and can even be completely submerged. They are made of piezoelectric materials, which are immune to both radiation and electromagnetic fields. Pressure transmitters can also be connected to other systems, such as electrical circuits, and can be calibrated to measure pressure relative to atmospheric pressure.

Disadvantages

Although pressure transmitter can be advantageous, they also have several disadvantages. For example, pressure transmitters are often expensive, although this differs for each version, and are usually difficult to find.
